Local Land Trusts of the Taunton River Watershed

A land trust is a non-profit conservation organization which has been established to own land or easements on land for the express purpose of natural resource protection.

Donations of eligible parcels of land or donations of permanent conservation restrictions may qualify as charitable contributions to the extent allowed by the Internal Revenue Service. A less-than-market price (or “bargain sale”) of land or a permanent deed restriction preventing development may also provide certain tax benefits for the donor.

Land Trusts are usually independent, public-supported non-profit organizations. Some land trusts operate in only one community and may have a close relationship with municipal government.
